Recordable optical discs have been available for more than 3 decades, but it doesn’t mean that all optical discs are made the same. True optical disc manufacturers have to have a balance of using the authentic original materials and the expertise experience and know-how to turn those materials into a proper recordable optical disc.

Taiyo Yuden helped develop and produced the world's first recordable CD in October 1988. Being the 1st to develop a product doesn’t make you the best by default, however, it was widely regarded that Taiyo Yuden provided the best and most desired recordable CD’s and DVD’s for the professional optical disc market. By having the most talented and knowledgeable workforce, they blended their expertise with high quality material to create the top line of recordable optical discs. At its height, Taiyo Yuden dominated the optical disc market in Japan with more than half of the total market share, then spread to the rest of the world as the proven choice for recordable optical discs.

Even though Taiyo Yuden remained the top choice for the professional market, the overall market share for optical discs began to drop in the mid 2010’s. Citing market shrinkage, changing market conditions, and a hike in the cost of raw materials, Taiyo Yuden announced its intention to discontinue its recordable media business in December 2015.

Many of the engineers and plant workers in the Taiyo Yuden optical disc plants had spent their entire careers focused just on producing Taiyo Yuden recordable optical discs. When the plant closed, these experts either retired or decided to apply their skills with other factories. A number of these seasoned experts joined the OPTODISC factory and applied their experience into developing the current TY Series.

The TY Series offers blank CD-R and DVD-R discs manufactured for those that are looking for the highest quality and reliability. The TY Series follows the true authentic manufacturing materials and process developed from a workforce that created recordable optical discs for over 30 years. That is why the TY Series should be the top choice for recordable media for anyone that cares about quality, reliability, compatibility, and archival life.
